Greenbelly Meals in the UK: Meal2Go, Shipping and Alternatives
In diesem Leitfaden
Written by James Frost, founder of Flaming Phoenix. Updated October 2026.
Greenbelly Meals are American ready-to-eat backpacking meals: each Meal2Go pouch holds two bars, weighs about 155g and gives 650 to 695 calories with 16 to 18g of protein. I found no UK stockist in October 2026, so UK buyers order from Greenbelly's own site, which calculates international shipping at checkout.
A note before the detail: I make Phoenix Bars, which appear below as one of the UK alternatives. Flaming Phoenix has no link with Greenbelly, and every Greenbelly figure on this page comes from Greenbelly's product page and FAQs, checked in October 2026.
What is Greenbelly Meal2Go?
Meal2Go is a stoveless backpacking meal: two dense bars in one pouch that Greenbelly sells as a full meal, with no cooking, rehydrating or washing up.
Greenbelly was founded by Chris Cage, who left an accounting job in 2012 and spent six months hiking the 2,185-mile Appalachian Trail, among other long trips. On Greenbelly's About page he says nutrition "was a constant struggle", and building a better trail meal became his project. The brand says each meal gives over 25% of the US Daily Value for six nutrients: calories, carbohydrate, protein, sodium, fat and fibre. Here are the flavours, per pouch of two bars:
- Peanut Apricot: 665 calories, 18g protein, 100g carbohydrate, 720mg sodium.
- Cranberry Almond: 650 calories, 17g protein, 95g carbohydrate, 720mg sodium.
- Dark Chocolate Banana: 660 calories, 17g protein, 95g carbohydrate, 720mg sodium.
- Mango Cashew Coconut: 665 calories, 16g protein, 100g carbohydrate, 750mg sodium.
- Spiced Caramel Apple: 695 calories, 18g protein, 90g carbohydrate, 800mg sodium.
At about 155g a pouch, that is 4.2 to 4.5 calories per gram. Greenbelly also lists a newer Greenbelly Meals Protein version.
Can you buy Greenbelly in the UK?
Yes, but only by ordering from the US: I found no UK shop or distributor selling Meal2Go in October 2026, and Greenbelly's FAQs say "international shipping can be calculated at checkout".
Prices on the US site are $45 for five meals ($9 a meal), $130 for 15 and $235 for 30, before shipping. Greenbelly's delivery estimate of 2 to 4 business days covers the continental United States only, so allow longer for a UK parcel. Then there is tax. GOV.UK's rules for goods sent from abroad work like this:
- Order worth £135 or less, such as one five-meal box: the seller has usually already included VAT, and there is no customs duty on ordinary food.
- Order worth more than £135, such as a 30-meal box at $235: you pay VAT before delivery or on collection, plus any customs duty on the price, postage and insurance, at the rate in the UK Trade Tariff.
- Either way, the carrier sends a bill for anything owed and holds the parcel for about three weeks before returning it unpaid.
Greenbelly says the meals are best eaten within a year of buying, so a bulk order only makes sense for a trip you have already planned.
Is Greenbelly vegan or gluten-free?
Greenbelly Meals are vegetarian and made with gluten-free oats, but they are not vegan, because every flavour contains honey.
The product page also lists a small amount of milk in the Dark Chocolate Banana and Spiced Caramel Apple flavours. If you need a vegan meal bar, the UK options below are plant-based; our comparison of the best vegan energy bars UK covers more.

What are the UK alternatives to Greenbelly Meals?
The closest UK-bought equivalents are other meal-sized bars of 500 to 600 calories, with freeze-dried pouches or a no-cook food bag if you would rather not live on bars.
- RealMeal: the nearest match in format, a single 150g bar with over 600 calories, 26g of protein from pea and peanut, and gluten-free oats, according to McGrocer's listing. About 4.0 calories per gram, and £5.00 at Cotswold Outdoor.
- Phoenix Bars: up to 557 calories in only 120g (4.4 to 4.6 calories per gram), with 18 to 19g of protein and up to 66g of carbohydrate. Vegan and gluten-free, £5.25 a bar, hand-packed and posted within 1 working day. Adam Eustace, bikepacking across Vancouver Island, said they "didn't break up in my bag". You can order a pack of Phoenix Bars direct.
- Freeze-dried pouches: if you carry a stove, these are still the classic evening meal, and I have ranked the best freeze-dried meals for backpacking on calories per gram.
- A no-cook food bag: nuts, nut butter, tortillas and dried fruit, built up in our guides to no-cook backpacking meals and the lightest high calorie food for backpacking, with ideas for the gaps in best camping snacks.
Greenbelly vs Phoenix Bars: how do they compare?
On calories per gram the two are close: 4.2 to 4.5 for a Meal2Go pouch against 4.4 to 4.6 for a Phoenix Bar.
Here is the working for one 650-calorie trail lunch. One Meal2Go pouch is 155g, with 16 to 18g of protein and 720 to 800mg of sodium. The same calories from Phoenix Bars is about 1.2 bars, roughly 140 to 150g, with 21 to 23g of protein; one whole bar is 529 to 557 calories in only 120g. The real differences are elsewhere:
- Greenbelly is designed and sold as a complete meal, with the sodium and fibre to match. Phoenix Bars make no complete-meal claim; they are built for calories in the least weight and space.
- Greenbelly contains honey and, in two flavours, milk. Phoenix Bars are vegan.
- Greenbelly costs $9 a meal before shipping and any import charges. Phoenix Bars cost £5.25 a bar in the UK.
- Phoenix Bars can also be stirred into water as a porridge, explained in how to use Phoenix Bars; Greenbelly is ready to eat as it comes.
If you already like Greenbelly and a bulk order fits your trip, importing it is a reasonable choice, especially if you value its sodium for hot, sweaty days. If you want something on your doorstep this week, buy in the UK. For the wider field, I have ranked the highest calorie bars in the UK per gram and per bar, compared the best meal replacement bars UK, and covered trail picks in the best energy bars for hiking; our homepage explains how our high calorie bars are made and sold.
Common questions
Does Greenbelly ship to the UK?
Greenbelly's FAQs say international shipping is calculated at checkout, so you can order from the UK. The site does not give UK delivery times; its 2 to 4 business-day estimate is for the continental US. Orders over £135 also attract VAT and possibly duty before delivery.
Is Meal2Go a complete meal?
Greenbelly describes it as "a ready-to-eat and nutritionally complete meal" giving over 25% of the US Daily Value for calories, carbohydrate, protein, sodium, fat and fibre. One pouch is 650 to 695 calories, so on a long trail day it is one of several meals.
How long do Greenbelly Meals last?
Greenbelly says they are best eaten within one year, and adds that freezing is an option for longer storage. Check the date when your parcel arrives, as transatlantic delivery uses up some of that time.
What does "green belly" mean on a search for meal bars?
Greenbelly (one word) is the brand. Meal2Go, also written Meal 2 Go, is the name in the product's web address and in many reviews, while Greenbelly's shop calls the pouch Greenbelly Meals. All of them refer to the same two-bar backpacking meal.
Greenbelly, Greenbelly Meals and Meal2Go are trademarks of their owner. Flaming Phoenix has no affiliation with Greenbelly.
