I just find Phoenix Bars very easy to store ( based on calorie return ) and I enjoy the eating experience taste and texture.
I tend to re order with the specific intent of use on ultra distance races( I do approx 3-4 a year ) or training days of 4hrs upward. My recent order is for the ARC25 along the South West Coast Path in Cornwall on the 25th Jan.
With this race UTMB also insist as part of the mandatory kit that an emergency amount of calories is carried throughout the race ( not with the intention for normal use ) Phoenix Bars are perfect in calorie quantity and size plus easy to store in bottom of pack for this purpose.
These Phoenix Bars are packed with calories for taking on hiking trips or long runs. To up my calorie intake I really like eating the salted caramel bars, but I’ve also crumbled the chocolate Phoenix bars into porridge in the morning. Delicious!
Have been trialling the new flavours during my Arc of Attrition training & in view of some longer events in summer. Love the fact that 1 single bar meets the emergency calorie requirement of the essential kit list for my distance (c500kcal). Ginger is my favourite (not keen on Cherry Bakewell but that’s personal preference). The bars are high in calories but not overly sweet or gooey. More crumbly in texture (you definitely need fluids with them). They have a little hint of salt crunch which I really like & love that they provide a break from the sickly gels (which have their place) but these come into their own when more substantial nutrition is needed. Would highly recommend for longer runs (>30k) and in the latter stages when you are more likely to need ‘real food’ to supplement other nutrition (I tend to intersperse with carb based drinks & gels or use as a drop bag ‘meal’ that is easily accessible and portable). Ginger flavour has the added benefit of helping with nausea, if that is an affliction in the later stages of long events. I also enjoy the bars post run with a cup of tea, when you can’t quite face/access a meal but know you need some immediate calorie replacement & recovery fuel until that is possible. Have not tried as a porridge as yet … but in multi-day events these would be great due to compact size.
Good flavours, easy to eat, even as porridge. No gastro issues.
I've spent some of time using Phoenix Bars during my training for the Winter Spine Race and I like them. It’s like Lembas bread from lord of the rings, tastes good and the new version less dry than the original. I’m taking them with me for the race. I also like that Flaming Phoenix takes the time to seek feedback, always a great sign of a company.
Phoenix bars are the ideal vegan emergency food for travelling to remote places. I enjoy how compact, tasty and nutritious they are.
Great taste, definitely provided plenty of energy in between work and physical exercise.
Great product, particularly for high calorie requirements👍
I have used the bars in a couple of my training runs and got on well with them, no digestive issues and good sustained energy release. I've just ordered 9 further bars for the Spine Challenger South Race.
These bars are unreal! My biggest nemesis has always been fuelling properly for long ultra-marathons and these are definitely going to help!
Thank you to James and Flaming Phoenix for the usual 5 star service ⭐️
I used Phoenix Bars on Beyond the Ultimate's Desert ultra and during a 100 miler. I like chopping Phoenix Bars into bite-sized chunks for easy snacking and I find the new recipe much easier to eat and less crumbly. I am excited to try the new flavours as I think this helps to add more variety.
Phoenix bars helped me to consume more calories during treatment for my medical condition. They are low volume, weren't too sweet, easy to digest and I also liked that they can be made into porridge.
I used Phoenix Bars during the Cheviot Goat and they were delicious! The flavour was amazing and it helped me pack in those essential calories and carbs for the border ridge on the way to the Cheviot.
I’ve been telling everyone since the race how brilliant they were and I can’t wait to book my next adventure so I can order some more 👍🏻
I have been using phoenix bars for the last few months and I really like them. They provide so much energy in a small portion and I'll be using these again for the Spine - both as a bar and as a porridge.
I really like the versatility phoenix bars provide. I like how you can break them into bite-sized chunks or mix them with water to make a nutritious porridge and I am excited to try the new Ginger and Apple & Cinnamon flavours. I recommend Phoenix bars to other ultra runners.
I am using Phoenix Bars in training for the MDS and they are working well for me. I particularly enjoy the Cherry Bakewell flavour.
I found phoenix bars to be really compact and easy to digest - a perfect source of lots of calories before long runs without leaving me feeling bloated.
I ordered some Phoenix Bars to try because of how calorie-dense they are for an upcoming ski touring holiday. We have munched through the flapjacks. Trying with milk, with water & eating on their own.
We really liked them. The flavours are all quite mild, which was a positive in our opinion. Not too dense, easy to eat & to digest. No criticisms come to mind.
We just re-ordered more for our trip and Phoenix Bars will be our go to in the future.
I used my last Phoenix Bar on the Machen Trail Marathon recently and it was pretty much perfect. I felt great throughout. I’m not much of a breakfast person but you need carbs to get through these tough races. I initially find the bars challenging to digest so I have to eat one at least 2 hours before, but once it settles it works a treat. Best option for me is soaking in milk and drinking it. I've just ordered the new flavours and I am excited to try them.
Tastes good and easy food on the belly
Now my go-to hunger killer on long runs. Taste good - the new flavours are awesome - compact and made from good things that keep you going.
Great and packed with lots of calories help in fueling, long runs or whatever you choose to do
Phoenix Bars are helping me to weight gain prior to Everest next year, which is a big problem for me. They contain over 550 calories, and I'll definitely be taking them on my summit expedition for Everest and Lhotse. Feel free to follow me on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@TimHoopHealth
